Who should I put down as references on a job application form?

how many do you need? customary rule is three professional(people who work with you/supervise) and three personal(friends/ teachers/pastor) and if each employer happens to call all 6 and still wants more- big red flag. also the person who would be calling usually is busy themselves.....they call like one or two so mix up the order you give them in....
