Hair grafts vs insert holes for hair transplant?

I recently received a hair transplant. I asked how many grafts the Dr. could do and he said he stopped doing grafts counts a long time ago. He said it is just a general estimate. I told him another doctor said he could do 2500 grafts and he laughed and said there is no way to acutally have 2500 holes poked in my head. During the procedure the doctor said he poked 1180 inserted holes in my head and then put the hair follicles in the holes. Does this mean its 1180 grafts? Confused.
